Previously, SaharaReporters shared an account of how several members of the Christ Apostolic Church of Nigeria (CAC) were abducted while on their way to a burial in Ose Local Government Area of Akure, the capital city of Ondo State.

However, the South-Western security organization, Amotekun, has now stated that the eight CAC members who were reportedly rescued by the Nigerian police actually managed to escape from their captors on Saturday.

According to an anonymous church member, the victims were traveling in a bus when armed individuals intercepted them on Ifon road and forced them into the nearby forest.

Adetunji Adeleye, the Amotekun Commander in the State, informed reporters in Akure, the state capital, that the victims had managed to escape from their captors. However, SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Spokesperson in the state, stated that the victims were rescued unharmed.

According to Adeleye, eight individuals, including a nurse, were rescued after successfully escaping from the kidnappers’ hideout. He further disclosed that his team, alongside officers from the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Army, and other security agencies, were currently in the wilderness, working towards rescuing the remaining abducted victims.

Odunlami-Omisanya clarified that the rescued individuals consisted of seven women and one man, with ongoing efforts to ensure the safe rescue of others.

In a statement, she delivered the good news that eight victims had been rescued, with further measures being taken to ensure the protection of those still in danger.

The victims narrated their ordeal, explaining that they were on their way to a wake keep when they were stopped by a group of five armed men at Ajagbale near Elegbeka on the Ifon/Owo expressway. The assailants fired sporadically and forcibly took them into the bush.
