When she was 6 years, her mother and her partner Bill Day moved all of them to New York. However, they moved back after five years.

After her family returned to L.A, she enrolled in a theatre institute, Lee Strasberg where she received training for 2 years and also did various stage plays. Her mother wanted her to try out modeling at an early age but it was not successful.

When she was growing up, during her dark phase, she decided to become a funeral director and drop acting. She started learning how to embalm. Jolie graduated from high school at 16 and decided to give her theatre study another chance.
