According to a report by SaharaReporters, police tear-gassed delegates at the location of the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party’s gubernatorial primary poll, causing a chaotic scenario.
Accreditation for the primary election began at 8 a.m. at the event center (Doom) in Asaba, the state capital, and a massive number of delegates, party leaders, hopefuls, government officials, and supporters were there.
SaharaReporters noticed that as delegates and others surrounded the accreditation venue’s entry gate, the situation got unruly and unmanageable for security personnel, culminating in teargassing of the crowd.
It was reported that, after the accreditation process, cars will transfer delegates to the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba, the location of the gubernatorial primary poll.
As of the time of this report’s publishing, official and economic activity have been crippled, multiple public highways have been shut, and security has been increased at Stephen Keshi’s stadium, where the primaries will be held.
