Dej Loaf was born on 8th of April,1991 and she grew up in the Eastside of Detroit, Michigan. As a little girl she loved listen to music with her parents and grandmother. Her favorite music at that age were the hit albums of Rakim, Miles Davis and Tupac. At a tender age of four, her father was killed leaving her in the care of her mother and grandmother.

At a tender age of nine, she started composing and writing her own songs lyrics. She graduated from Southern High School in Detroit, in 2009. Right in high school, she also played basketball at junior varsity level. Later on, she did her tertiary education at Saginaw Valley State University, where she studied nursing for only three semesters before deciding to concentrate fully on her musical career.

Even though she began singing at a very young age, Deja Trimble actually started her professional musical career in 2011, as a hip-hop artist. She derived her stage name “Dej Loaf” from a shortened form of her first name Deja = “Dej” and “Loafer (which she picked while growing up and very interested in Air Jordan) = “Loaf”.

Her first official mixtape “Just do it” was released in 2013 and it cut the attention of a rapper, SAYITAINTTONE, who is also Detroit- native rapper. He eventually signed her to his indie record label known as IBGM (I Been Gettin’ Money), which was under his management team.

In July 2014, DSS helped her produce a hit single titled “Try Me” and it brought her viral popularity after Drake the Canadian hip hop rapper quoted lyrics from her song on his Instagram post. Through this achievements, Dej Loaf signed a contract with Columbia Records in October 2014 and thereafter released her second official mixtape “Sell Sol”. She was also featured by Eminem in a song titled “Detroit vs. Everybody”.

Though, she has been suspected to be a lesbian due to her masculine dressing style. These suspicions were at one time backed up when Aye Redd came out to proclaim that she was Dej Loaf’s girlfriend. She actually declared that they were dating and that Dej Loaf’s relationship with Lil Durk does not exist. However, in November 2015, Dej Loaf and Lil Durk came out as a couple and together released a single titled “My Beyoncé”.
