Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on the 19th of January, 1946 in Sevier County, East Tennessee to Avie Lee Owens – Caroline and Robert Lee Parton Sr. Her parents had 12 children and Dolly is the fourth born. Her father did construction jobs and her mother was a homemaker.

She and her siblings were raised in a religious home and attended church regularly. Her mother became a mother of 12 when she was just 35 years old. However two of Dolly’s siblings have passed away, one just immediately after birth and the other in 2018.

She grew up with a very poor background. When her mother gave birth to her, the doctor who delivered her was paid with a bag of cornmeal. She lived in a one-room cabin with her family and some of her early performances were in church. When she was seven years, she started playing a homemade guitar, and then at eight, her uncle got her a real guitar.
