According to a report by SaharaReporters, Fatima Usman, a Shiite, member of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) who was shot during clashes between the Islamic organization and security forces in Kaduna, has died.

On April 28, SaharaReporters claimed that police opened fire on Shiites during their annual Quds Day march in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Quds Day, which is the Arabic term for Jerusalem, is an annual day of Palestinian solidarity observed by IMN members on the final Friday of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

According to witnesses, the police used tear gas and live bullets to disperse the gathering.

A member of the group confirmed Fatima’s death to SaharaReporters on Wednesday, stating that she passed away after spending two months in the hospital.

“Sister Fatima Usman Samaru, one of us who the police injured this year in Zaria during Quds day protest is dead. She was certified dead after spending more than two months in recovery from the sh0oting she received from the security forces. 

“She was admitted at Ahmadu Bello University teaching hospital in Shika Sabon Zaria. The burial will be held according to the Islamic religion on 28th of Ramadan this year, security officers injured 9 people with over 60 arrests during the Quds protest.”
