The Australian actor was born on the 12th of October, 1968 in New South Wales to Grace McNeil Greenwood and Christopher John Jackman, an accountant. When he was just eight years, his parents got divorced and their family was separated. He stayed back in Australia with his dad and two older brothers while his mum took his two older sisters. As for education, he attended Pymble Public School and later went to Knox Grammar school. After graduating from high school, he worked as a Physical Education teacher at Uppingham School in England.

After this, he went to the University of Technology in Sydney where he graduated in 1991 after studying Communications. While in the university, he took a course in drama and played the Lead role in the play “The Memorandum”.
