President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Olukoyede’s appointment is for a renewable term of four years, pending Senate confirmation. This decision comes after the suspension of the former chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, nearly four months ago.

The appointment of Olukoyede follows Bawa’s resignation, according to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

  2. Hailing from Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Olukoyede proudly calls it his hometown.
  3. Completing his studies at various institutions, Olukoyede attended Lagos State University, University of Lagos, Institute of Arbitration in France, and the esteemed Kennedy School of Executive Education at the University of Harvard in the United States.
  4. The chairman of the EFCC, who hails from Ekiti State, was a member of the Fraud Advisory Panel in the United Kingdom.
  5. With extensive experience as a lawyer, Olukoyede has spent over 22 years working as a regulatory compliance consultant and specializing in fraud management and corporate intelligence.
  6. Prior to joining the EFCC, Olukoyede was employed at the law firm of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
  7. During his tenure at the EFCC, Olukoyede served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, from 2016 to 2018.
  8. From 2018 to 2023, he served as the Secretary of the anti-graft agency.
