In a statement released on Friday by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the pro-Biafra group announced that they have prohibited the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence anniversary in the Southeast on October 1.

The statement alleged that the Nigerian state harbors hostility towards Igbos and has consistently refused to treat the Southeast population fairly. Additionally, the group cautioned the governors and political leaders of the region to abstain from partaking in the celebration.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its global community, led by Mazi Nnamdi KANU, are urging Biafrans, both within and outside the country, to refrain from participating in Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration on October 1, 2023.

The statement emphasizes that Biafrans must recognize that Nigeria holds a strong disdain for them, specifically the Ndigbo community. Political and economic marginalization has been a consistent experience for Biafrans at the hands of Nigeria.

Consequently, as Nigeria has rejected them, they have reciprocated by rejecting Nigeria and its celebratory events.

The group firmly asserts that both the Nigerian government and its citizens have demonstrated repeatedly that Biafrans are not considered as part of them. In light of this, they believe it is imperative to take every possible action to free themselves from the grip of Nigeria’s oppression.

Even the most naive person would have realized by now that Nigeria is not conducive for the Ndigbo and Biafrans, especially after the chaotic 2023 elections.

Therefore, we strongly urge the Eastern Region Governors and Political leaders to abstain from participating in the October 1st Independence celebration in our region. Additionally, we advise Biafrans to refrain from attending any Independence celebrations within Biafra territory or elsewhere.

Consequently, IPOB has officially prohibited the observance of Independence Day and the display of Nigerian flags in any part of Biafraland on October 1st, 2023.
