Julia is a descendant of Irish, Welsh, Scottish, German, English, and Swedish. She has two siblings, a brother Eric Roberts and a sister Lisa Roberts Gillian. She has a younger half-sibling Nancy Motes. Her brother, sister and niece Emma Roberts are also successful actors.

Her parents co-founded an acting and writing workshop in Atlanta in Juniper Street, Midtown. They were both one-time actors and while pregnant with Juliet, they were running an acting school for children in Georgia together. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King’s children attended the school.

Julia Robert went to Fitzhugh Lee Elementary, Griffin Middle school, and Campbell High School. After her parent’s divorce was finalized in 1972, her mother remarried Michael Motes who was very abusive.

They had a child Nancy Motes who passed away at 37 as a result of a drug overdose on the 9th of February, 2014.
