Former US First Lady, Michelle Obama, has closed the door on any speculation surrounding her potential candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the upcoming 2024 US presidential elections. The 60-year-old former first lady’s office put an end to rumors on Tuesday, March 5, ending persistent talks of her stepping into the race to replace President Joe Biden.

In a statement to NBC News, Michelle Obama’s communications director, Crystal Carson, reiterated Mrs. Obama’s stance on the matter, stating firmly that she will not be pursuing a presidential bid. Carson emphasized Mrs. Obama’s unwavering support for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in their re-election campaign.

This announcement comes amidst growing rumours within the Democratic Party about potential alternatives to President Biden. However, Michelle Obama has consistently dismissed any notion of running for president, citing her lack of desire and passion for politics.

Former President Barack Obama, Michelle’s husband, has also thrown his support behind President Biden, declaring his full backing for his former vice president’s anticipated rematch against former President Donald Trump.

In a candid conversation with Oprah Winfrey during her Netflix special “The Light We Carry” last year, Michelle Obama underscored her disinterest in politics, emphasizing that the desire to lead must come from deep within. She iterated that politics is not her calling and does not resonate with her soul.

Amidst concerns among some Democrats about President Biden’s leadership, a recent Rasmussen survey revealed that nearly half of Democrats are open to the idea of replacing him as the party’s nominee.

Michelle Obama has also expressed her apprehensions about the prospect of Donald Trump returning to the Oval Office. In a podcast appearance in January, she voiced her fear about the potential consequences of having certain leaders in power, stressing the significance of who represents the nation and occupies the presidency.
