New RECs for Lagos, Rivers, and seven other regions appointed by Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has appointed nine new Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission. Each commissioner will serve for a term of five years, pending confirmation by the Senate.

The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints nine INEC resident electoral commissioners.’

The appointed commissioners are Isah Ehimeakne (Edo State), Bamidele Agbede (Ekiti State), Jani Bello (Gombe State), Taiye Ilayasu (Kwara State), Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos State), Yahaya Bello (Nasarawa State), Mohammed Yalwa (Niger State), Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers State), and Abubakar Dambo (Zamfara State).

These appointments were made in accordance with the powers granted to the President’s Office by Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, Amended) and Section 6 of the Electoral Act (2022).

Tinubu expressed his belief that the newly appointed individuals should adhere to the utmost levels of professionalism and ethical behavior while carrying out their responsibilities.

His intention is to promote the creation of a fresh and enduring standard of transparent, fair, and impartial electoral conduct in Nigeria.

The new appointees are:

Mr. Etekamba Umoren — Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne — Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola — Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji — Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Mr. Shehu Wahab — Kwara State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi — Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Mr. Aminu Kasimu Idris — Nasarawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Prof. Mohammed Yelwa — Niger State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Dr. Anugbum Onuoha — Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Mr. Isma’ila Kaura Moyi — Zamfara State Resident Electoral Commissioner
