A 30-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Ahmed, met a tragic end as he was fatally stabbed after reportedly pilfering N600,000 from his employer to book a hotel room.

The Ogun State Police Command reported that the incident occurred on Wednesday when a 32-year-old fashion designer named Omowunmi Oyapitan engaged in a confrontation with Ahmed at a hotel where he had sought refuge after committing the theft.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesperson for the Ogun police, stated that the police received a distress call from Stephen Udo, the manager of Splendour Guest Inn, located at Onipanu Division. Udo informed the police that an argument had escalated into violence between two guests, leading Oyapitan to break a bottle and fatally stab Ahmed in the neck.

CSP Bamidele Job, the DPO of Onipanu division, promptly dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the victim in a pool of blood. The suspect was apprehended, and Ahmed was rushed to State Hospital, Ota, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ahmed, employed as a bartender at Hayorlak Hotel, had been staying at the guest inn since Monday after embezzling the money. He had used a portion of the stolen funds to accommodate some friends, leading to a dispute with one of them who accused him of theft.

The incident unfolded in a neighborhood, marked by a heated exchange of words between two individuals. According to gathered information, the altercation began when one of them accused the other, leading to heightened tensions. In the midst of the argument, a third person, identified as the suspect, intervened, claiming to be acquainted with one of the individuals involved.

The situation took a violent turn when the deceased, evidently displeased with the intervention, delivered a punch to the suspect’s mouth. In a retaliatory act, the suspect, fueled by anger, responded by breaking a bottle and stabbing the deceased in the neck. The severity of the situation prompted the involvement of law enforcement.

The spokesperson, Oyeyemi, emphasized that the case is slated for transfer to the homicide section at Eleweran, Abeokuta. This move is intended to facilitate further investigation and subsequent prosecution. The incident underscores the complex dynamics that can arise from interpersonal conflicts, emphasizing the need for a thorough examination of the circumstances leading to the unfortunate outcome.
