Starting on Monday, October 23, 2023, the Supreme Court will begin hearing the appeal made by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Atiku, who secured second place in the election, had previously taken his case to the presidential election tribunal in order to invalidate the February 25 election, which declared Bola Tinubu as the winner according to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Unfortunately, the tribunal dismissed Atiku’s petition due to a lack of substance. Not content with the outcome, Atiku subsequently lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court.
In a notice issued on Thursday, Zainab Garba, the registrar of the Supreme Court, revealed that Atiku’s appeal would be heard on Monday.
The notice stated, “Please be aware that the aforementioned appeal/motion will be scheduled for hearing at the Supreme Court of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday, October 23, 2023.
Additionally, in accordance with Order 2 Rule 1(2) of the Supreme Court Rules 1985, as amended, this NOTICE is considered duly served if it is delivered to your designated address or sent via registered mail. As the date of service by post is significant, Section 26 of the Interpretation Act, 1964 will be applicable.”
