People in Mangu, Plateau Protest Over Killing Of ‘100 People Within Two Days'

Plateau State Nigeria has been in the news for sometime for bad reasons with the most recent being the brutal murder of over a 100 persons in Mangu local government area of the state within two days.

This has led to a protest by youths and women who are tired of the destruction of lives and property. The protesters who wore black attire and also carried leaves marched out to display their dissatisfaction with the state of things in the community.

They expressed their grievances and protested over the incessant attacks of indigenes by gunmen suspected of being bandits, terrorists or herders.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported on the attack and how suspected terrorists attacked and killed several locals including women and children at Kubat village in the area last week. The community was invaded while the villagers were asleep.
Solomon Marren, a member of the House of Representatives representing Mangu / Bokkos Federal Constituency in the state, has last Wednesday issued a statement saying about 200 people has been killed in his constituency by terrorists just within a few months. He also disclosed that over a 100 people were killed within the last two days.
“I find it expedient at this time to intimate the world on the unfortunate happenings in my constituency, Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency, Plateau state, in the last two days, where over 100 persons, most of them women and children, have been massacred and butchered in cold blood by terrorist during an overnight unprovoked attack, and their houses burnt down, including foodstuffs, food barns and seedlings,” he said.
The state governor, Simon Lalong , who confirmed the development, described it as very sad. He also directed the security agencies to take prompt action in pursuing and apprehending those responsible.
Dr Makut Simon, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the governor disclosed that the governor also directed the State Emergency Management Agency and the Peace Building Agency to visit the area and assess the humanitarian needs in order to provide assistance to those affected while an investigation was being carried out.
