The All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos Chapter, celebrated yesterday as the tribunal affirmed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as the winners of the election. Governor Sanwo-Olu hailed the judgment as a victory for everyone and called for the cooperation of Lagosians to achieve more for the state.

The victory of the APC in the March 18 poll was contested by Olajide Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP).

Today, the tribunal in Calabar, Cross River State, is set to announce their decision on the petition filed by PDP candidate Prof. Sandy Onor, who is challenging Governor Bassey Otu’s victory from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Furthermore, the tribunal sitting in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, has postponed its judgment on the case brought by Ken Pela, the LP candidate, against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP.

Sanwo-Olu, speaking to reporters at the State House in Ikeja after the ruling, praised the judges for their thorough judgment.

He referred to the verdict as a call for greater service, stating, “The process was challenging and lengthy, but we are grateful that the voices of Lagosians were heard and respected. The Deputy Governor and I are honored and appreciative of the support we received from the people of Lagos. This is a victory for all, with no winners or losers.

However, it is also a reminder that there is more work to be done. Our focus remains on serving the people and delivering the benefits of democracy to them.”

Sanwo-Olu also urged his fellow contestants to join him in the efforts to build the ideal Lagos. He expressed his willingness to work together with anyone who has the passion to serve, as there is room for everyone to contribute to the development of Lagos.

The Lagos APC party hailed the tribunal’s verdict as a confirmation of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat’s victory in the election. The party spokesman, Seye Oladejo, congratulated the Governor and Deputy Governor on the reaffirmation of their win. He also congratulated the people of Lagos particularly the APC members for their hard work during the election.

He stated that the affirmation of their victory was a clear indication that the majority of voters desired developmental and progressive governance, rather than risky experiments.

The verdict clearly upholds our belief that the petitions filed by our opponents were merely an academic exercise by disgruntled individuals.

With the dismissal of the two petitions by the three-man panel, we can confidently assure all Lagosians that the Lagos APC will continue its long-standing tradition of delivering quality service and providing the desired benefits of democracy.

The tribunal’s decision unanimously declared that Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat were fully qualified to contest and ruled that their governorship ticket were inseparable.

Furthermore, the tribunal emphasized that a deputy governor and governor are not considered separate candidates and are not required to pay separate security fees.
