Some Govt Directors Can’t Operate Computers – HoS, Yemi-Esan Makes Startling Claim

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, has disclosed that some directors don’t know how to use computers.

The HoS also disclosed that Permanent Secretaries endure rigorous procedures before appointment.

Yemi-Esan gave the assurance in a conversation with media on Wednesday in Abuja.

She replied to the issue surrounding the examination and selection of the administrators.

Yemi-Esan stated that their selection and appointments were completely based on merit.

She stated there were no malpractices as reported in certain quarters, adding that “there are no favorite candidates”.

The HOS stated that several directors complained about computer-based assessments because they were unable to use computers.

Yemi-Esan alleged her office selected questions one day before the tests without the applicants or examiners’ knowledge.

“If the permanent secretaries who are supposed to lead the digitisation process don’t know how to operate computers, how can we not say that the public service is confused.

“How are they going to lead by example? That is the first thing”, she quipped.

On the non-application of civil service rules by some Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Yemi-Esan urged any one affected to send a petition to her office.

“We don’t know the details of what is happening in parastatals and agencies except our attention is called to it”, she said.
