The dates for the Edo and Ondo Governorship Polls have been announced by INEC.

150 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of the last holder’s tenure. Therefore, the Edo governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024, and the Ondo State election will take place on November 16, 2024.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced this in accordance with the constitutional provisions. The tenure of the governors of Edo and Ondo states will end on November 11, 2024, and February 23, 2025, respectively.

The Commission, in the exercise of its powers granted by the Constitution and the Electoral Act, has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the upcoming Edo and Ondo State Governorship elections. The Edo State Governorship election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 21st September 2024.

Party primaries will be conducted from 1st to 24th February 2024. Subsequently, the submission of the list of nominated candidates through the online portal will commence on 4th March 2024 at 9.00 am and conclude on 24th March 2024 at 6.00 pm.

The final list of candidates will be published on 23rd April 2024. Political parties are permitted to commence public campaigning on 24th April 2024, but the campaign must end 24 hours prior to the election day, which is set for 19th September 2024.

The Governorship election of Ondo State is scheduled to take place on Saturday 16th November 2024. According to the statement, the party primaries will be conducted from 6th – 27th April 2024. After the primaries, the list of nominated candidates should be submitted through an online portal starting from 9.00 am on 29th April 2024 and closing at 6.00 pm on 20th May 2024.

The final list of candidates will be published on 18th June 2024. The political campaign by parties will begin on 19th June 2024 and conclude 24 hours before the election day, which is on 14th November 2024.
