Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has revealed the reasons behind the police summoning Mr Ibu’s adopted daughter, Jasmine, and two sons, Daniel and Val.
The news broke on Wednesday evening that Stella Maris, Mr Ibu’s wife, had instigated their arrests following weeks of social media disputes regarding the signatory authority over the actor’s account.
Doris Ogala, a Nollywood actress, shared the information on Instagram, claiming that Jasmine and the actor’s sons were taken into custody at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos. The allegation was that Jasmine had transferred N300 million from Mr Ibu’s account, intended for the actor’s medical treatment.
“Ibu’s wife alleged that Jasmine moved N300 million out of the account. Ibu’s wife allegedly wanted them to buy her a new house from the money contributed so far for Ibu’s treatments. That’s why she arrested Jasmine. But investigation states that the money contributed isn’t even up to N300 million,” Ogala wrote.
However, during a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Thursday, Chochoo affirmed that the police had invited all three individuals in connection to Mr. Ibu’s account. Chochoo clarified that he wouldn’t refer to it as an arrest, but rather a police invitation. Notably, Val is exempted from this situation, as he is unaware of the ongoing events, having just returned to the country.
“I haven’t been able to reach any of them,” Chochoo mentioned.
When our correspondent reached out to Stella Maris for her response to the allegations, she chose not to comment, stating, “Please, I do not want to say anything about it, please,” before ending the call.
Efforts to contact Jasmine were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
It’s worth noting that Okafor recently appealed for public assistance due to a medical emergency. The actor, who is reported to be on the path to recovery after undergoing multiple surgeries, also had one of his legs amputated.
