President Bola Tinubu has instructed security agencies to rescue the remaining female students who were recently abducted by terrorists at the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State.

The armed bandits broke into several hostels in the school and took away a number of students, including females, in the early hours of Friday.

This incident occurred just five months after two female students from the same university were kidnapped. In addition, over 80 youths were also abducted in Wanzamai village in Zamfara during the same period.

Zamfara has been an area of intense terrorist activity with the notorious abduction of 279 female students, aged between 10 and 17, from Government Girls Science Secondary School in Jangebe on February 26, 2021.

Despite the enforcement of a no-fly zone by former President Muhammadu Buhari, the incidents of abduction and violence continue in certain volatile areas.

During the recent abduction on Friday, the Nigerian army engaged in a shootout with the terrorists and successfully rescued six female students. However, there are still over 20 students who remain in the custody of the terrorists.

In a statement titled ‘President Tinubu directs security agencies to rescue remaining female students abducted at Federal University, Gusau’, President Bola Tinubu expressed his outrage and stated that there is no justification for such horrific crimes against innocent victims who were simply seeking education.

President Tinubu condemned the act and extended his condolences to all the families affected by this tragic incident.

He stated that it is the responsibility of his government to safeguard every Nigerian citizen, and to fulfill this obligation, he guarantees the families of the kidnapped students that no measures will be neglected in order to bring them back safely.

Additionally, the President promised that the national government is resolute in guaranteeing that educational institutions continue to be places of learning, progress, and possibility, and are completely shielded from the threatening actions of terrorists.
