Chicago State University, located in the United States of America, has recently released President Bola Tinubu’s academic records to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

This action was taken in compliance with a United States District Court’s order in the Northern District of Illinois. Despite President Tinubu’s objections, the judge dismissed them and ruled in favor of Atiku Abubakar, granting his application.

To ensure a timely completion of discovery, the court has established an expedited schedule, taking into consideration the pending deadline set by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on October 5, 2023.

CSU has been instructed to provide all relevant and non-privileged documents in response to the requested production numbers. Additionally, the Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU’s corporate designee must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

It is important to note that the court will not grant extensions or modifications to these deadlines due to the upcoming filing deadline before the Supreme Court of Nigeria on October 5, 2023.

In relation to Atiku’s inquiry about a copy of Mr. Tinubu’s diploma issued by CSU in 1979, the university responded that they do not typically retain copies of student diplomas.

Despite conducting a thorough search, they were unable to locate the original diploma prepared for Mr. Tinubu in 1979. Consequently, they do not possess any documents that are responsive to this particular request.

Atiku plans to utilize the CSU academic record during his appeal at the Supreme Court, seeking to challenge Tinubu’s triumph in the presidential election held on February 25.

However, Tinubu’s legal representatives have contended that the documents would be insignificant in the Supreme Court proceedings.
