According to police reports, two students, aged six and nine, from Isheri Olofin in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, have allegedly started a fire at the Community Primary School. The police have identified the children as Wahis Musa and Malik Iliasu, and they have been apprehended by the Ojodu-Abiodun Divisional Police Officer of the Ogun State Police Command.

On Monday, Odutola announced that they had been caught for the offense of causing intentional damage and committing arson. The incident took place on October 29, 2023, where two students from Community Primary School in Isheri Olofin were involved.

The students in question were identified as Wahis Musa, aged 6 years, and Malik Iliasu, aged 9 years. Both of them reside in the Isheri Olofin community. It was reported by a community chief, who lodged a complaint at the police station, that Musa and Iliasu unlawfully accessed an unlocked classroom at the school. They gathered the remaining books belonging to the teachers and students and deliberately set them on fire, causing damage to the school property.

The scene was visited by the anti-crime team and police detectives who then took the supposed children to the police station for questioning.

According to Odutola, investigations are currently underway and the police are trying to find ways to reach the parents “as this crime is extremely serious for these children to have been involved in.”

She reassured that the police will uncover all the details surrounding the incident and inform the public if there are any other individuals who may have influenced the children.
