Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun professionally known as Wizkid is a 32-year-old Nigerian singer and songwriter born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

He is an important figure in the modern-day Afrobeats music scene and is considered one of the biggest and most influential African artists of all time. He stands 5 feet high and weighs 60 kilograms, he is slim and dark in complexion.

Wizkid grew up in an interfaith household with twelve female siblings. His father practiced Islam while his mother is a Pentecostal Christian.

Wizkid Ayo had his education at the Ijebu Ode Grammar School. Wizkid grew up listening to the music of icons like King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti, and Bob Marley.

Wizkid Music Career

Wizkid started recording music at the age of 11. He released a collaborative album with the Glorious Five (5), a group formed by him and two of his church friends.

In 2009, he signed a record contract with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). Wizkid became famous after he released “Holla at Your Boy“, the lead single from his debut studio album, ”Superstar” in 2011, which gave birth to “Tease Me/Bad Guys” and “Don’t Dull“.

Initially, Wizkid took the stage name Lil Prinz until 2006. While Wizkid visited  OJB’s Point Beat Studios, he watched legendary singer, 2 Face Idibia record songs for his Grass 2 Grace album.

Superstar (2010 to 2011)

Wizkid started recording his debut studio album Superstar in 2009 and released “Holla at Your Boy” as the album’s lead single in January 2010.

From 2012 to  2014, Wizkid recorded his second studio album Ayo featuring guest appearances from artists like Femi Kuti, Banky W., Seyi Shay, Phyno, Tyga, Akon, and Wale.

In August 2021, Wizkid released a remix of “Essence“, which featured Canadian singer Justin Bieber, and it emerged as the highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 by an African act, peaked at No. 11 in October 2021.

Wizkid on the first anniversary of ”Made in Lagos”, announced his fifth album ”More Love, Less Ego”, and was set to be released on the last day of the Made in Lagos tour, being January 22, 2022.

In September 2022, Wizkid headlined the Rolling Loud Toronto hip-hop festival, emerging as the first African artist in history to achieve such a feat.

Wizkid 2012 signed a one-year endorsement deal with Pepsi, worth $350,000, and prior to that traveled to Beirut, Lebanon, with Tiwa Savage for a Pepsi commercial sh0ot.
